Chronicles Of Junior Mafia Sky High
Chronicles Of Junior M.A.F.I.A. DVD: Mentored by their Bed-Stuy homeboy The Notorious B.I.G., Brooklyn-based hip-hop outfit Junior M.A.F.I.A. shot to fame (and launched the career of ghetto-fabulous Lil Kim) with their 1995 debut CONSPIRACY. This music documentary travels behind the scenes to chronicle the feuds, lawsuits, arrests, and shootouts that drive the band's well-earned reputation as straight-from-the-hood gangsta rappers.

Most teenagers cringe at the thought of meeting their parents' high expectations--good grades, well-behaved friends, and a plan for the future--and none more so than Will Stronghold (Michael Angarano), the son of legendary superheroes Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston). This clever Disney comedy follows Will from his first day as star student at Sky High, an elite school for the children of superheroes. The only problem is that Will apparently has no special powers, and he can't let his parents find out! Lacking the abilities needed to attend hero classes, Will falls in with the misfit sidekicks, whose only powers include turning into a guinea pig, glowing, and melting. However, when an old villain with a new power reappears on the scene, the pressure is on Will and his sidekicks to save his parents, his school, and the earth itself. Perhaps as a tribute to the classic era of teen films, SKY HIGH features a soundtrack bursting with 1980s hits covered by contemporary artists, including Flashlight Brown, Bowling for Soup, and Vitamin C. The film also features performances that will please adult viewers, including a cameo as the school principal by former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, comedian Dave Foley as a washed up sidekick, and EVIL DEAD star Bruce Campbell as Coach Boomer. Truly fun for all ages, the charming teen stars, fast pace, and universal story make SKY HIGH a clear family classic on par with SIXTEEN CANDLES, SPY KIDS, and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION. Reviews USA Today 07/29/2005 "[A] family comedy with welcomely loopy asides....It's clever to take the standard 'cool' and 'nerd' high school subcultures and transform them into 'heroes' and their 'sidekicks.'"New York Times 07/29/2005 "The live action and computer animation are so thoroughly interwoven that you can easily lose track of what is what."Entertainment Weekly 08/05/2005 "The flick is best in its bittier moments, and there's nothing to trouble the tots." It was inevitable that THE DUKES OF HAZZARD would leap onto the big screen, and now, thanks to Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar (SUPER TROOPERS, CLUB DREAD), it finally has. Slipping into the boots made famous by John Schneider and Tom Wopat, Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville play moonshine-selling cousins, Bo and Luke Duke. Along with their ridiculously gorgeous cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) and joke-telling Uncle Jessie (Willie Nelson), the Duke boys love to get the goat of Hazzard County's most crooked law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey) and county commissioner Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds). But when they discover that Boss Hogg is using his leverage to run them off their farm in order to turn Hazzard County into a strip mine for coal, things get personal. With the help of their faithful friends, Bo and Luke set off on their riskiest adventure yet.Showing his reverence for the classic 1980s show, Chandrasekhar incorporates freeze-frames, humorous narration, and extended action sequences, resulting in a crowd-pleasing romp that promises to introduce a whole new generation of fans to the Duke boys. While Scott, Knoxville, and the scantily clad Simpson deliver the goods, it is The General Lee--the pair's electrifying orange Charger--that steals the show. Reviews Entertainment Weekly 08/12/2005 "As a movie, THE DUKES OF HAZZARD is more fun than it has any right to be....The cars chases are blissful celebrations of movement and flight..." The 40 Year Old Virgin The Island
Andy Stitzer rides his bike to his stockperson job at Smart Tech, has a nice apartment filled with collectable toys (in their original packages), and plays videogames every night before bed. He's also a 40-year-old virgin. During a poker game with his coworkers David (Paul Rudd), Jay (Romany Malco), and Cal (Seth Rogen), talk turns to sex and it becomes very clear that Andy doesn't know what he's talking about. His friends become intent on remedying his situation, and their advice leads to newfound confidence for naïve Andy. But when he develops true feelings for single mother Trish (Catherine Keener), Andy finds that all the sex advice in the world won't help him navigate the choppy waters of an adult relationship. In Andy, Steve Carrell has found a perfect comic creation who is hilarious, lovable, and rooted in reality. Rudd, Malco, and Rogen are also perfectly cast as Andy's cheerleaders. The script, by Carrell and first-time director Judd Apatow (producer of TV's FREAKS AND GEEKS), is consistently funny, and--despite its relentless crudity--treats its nerdy protagonist with the utmost respect. This rare quality and its high laugh-to-joke ratio make VIRGIN one of the most enjoyable comedies of the decade. Reviews Premiere 02/01/2006 "[B]ehind every cheap joke in the film, there's as much heart as there is smut..."Sight and Sound 10/01/2005 "[T]he movie is often funny. Carell delivers some great ad-libbing....[A] messy, mischievous cult comedy in the making."USA Today 08/19/2005 "Carell is now a major comedic force. With this awkward middle-aged character, which he expanded from a Second City comedy troupe sketch, he has landed on the ideal role to showcase his talents."Rolling Stone 08/25/2005 "A howlingly comic revel in bad taste....[Carell] is flat-out hilarious....[It] keeps firing off rude, raucous laughs."Entertainment Weekly 08/26/2005 "Carell plays him in the funniest and most surprising way possible: as a credible human being....Buoyantly clever and amusing..." In this thriller from director Michael Bay (PEARL HARBOR, ARMAGEDDON), survivors of global contamination live in a sterile, self-contained world where their every move is monitored. The rules are easy: be pleasant, refrain from asking questions, and don't rock the boat. Everything they need is provided for them, from the white uniforms that magically appear in their closets, to their customized cafeteria-style meals. The survivors all eagerly await their big payoff: winning the lottery and being sent to The Island, the only remaining untainted land in the world. But Lincoln Six-Echo (Ewan McGregor) yearns for more from his life and begins to wonder what really lies outside the thick walls. When his best friend, Jordan Two-Delta (Scarlett Johansson), wins the lottery, he knows that he has to find out the truth about their world before she departs. What he finds is terrifying enough to send Lincoln and Jordan fleeing from the facility to the real world where they quickly discover that they are clones, and that both The Island and global contamination are a ruse. The clones sole purpose is to be harvested for replacement parts when their sponsors need them. With his business now in jeopardy, Dr. Merrick (Sean Bean), the founder of the cloning company, hires a crack team led by Albert Laurent (Djimon Hounsou) to track down his escaped product. Wild chase scenes through Los Angeles circa 2050 are punctuated by high-tech transportation as Lincoln and Jordan run for their lives and try to assimilate into a world that is completely foreign to them. The futuristic set design and visual effects are particularly impressive. McGregor and Johansson both expertly communicate the human element and desire for life that has developed in the two clones, while still finding humor and awe in their childlike naivety. Reviews Uncut 10/01/2005 "[With] an intriguing opening hour which manages to create genuine suspense and recall the creepiest moments of LOGAN'S RUN."New York Times 07/22/2005 "[G]lossy, witty eye candy with some moderately chewy stuff in the middle." Must Love Dogs Must Love Dogs
John Cusack and Diane Lane star in this romantic comedy titled after a personal ad on the Internet. Eight months after getting divorced, downtrodden preschool teacher Sarah (Lane) is wary of re-entering the dating pool. Seeing her reluctance as a cry for help, Sarah's large, jovial family plans an intervention. While Sarah does not appreciate being bombarded by photographs and phone numbers of potential mates (half of whom are married), even she can see that her most meaningful relationship should not be with her brother's dog--a loveable Newfoundland named Mother Theresa. After Sara answers personal ads with less-than-thrilling results, her sister Carol (Elizabeth Perkins) takes things into her own hands, secretly posting an online-dating profile on Sarah's behalf. In a familiar montage of first-date scenarios, Sarah meets one unappealing prospective bachelor after another: one who can't stop talking about himself, another who can't stop crying, one with an affinity for bondage, etc. But when she meets recently divorced Jake (Cusack), something clicks. While their meeting is somewhat awkward, it makes enough of an impression on Jake that he wants a second chance. From here, the two embark on a clumsy courtship complicated by misunderstandings, mishaps, and another equally charming suitor, Bob (Dermot Mulroney). While doing her best to navigate the unfamiliar world of modern-day romance, Sarah learns that sometimes finding Mr. Right means taking a chance. Christopher Plummer and Stockard Channing are excellent in their respective roles as Sarah's widowed father, Bill, and his new girlfriend (a compulsive Internet-dater) Dolly. Reviews USA Today 07/29/2005 "DOGS is all about laughs....Raised to a higher level by the presence of John Cusack, an actor who embodies warmth, wit, intelligence and low-key charm."Rolling Stone 08/11/2005 "It's a frisky romantic comedy with a great title and wonderfully appealing performances."
